About me
I’m William L. Roberts; I write, I live near Seattle, and sometimes I keep bees.
There’s a little more to this in all directions. My personal history begins in Minnesota, where I grew up in a house stuffed with books and encouragement to read them. My experiences as a reader drew me into fantasy and later science fiction, with a healthy dose of mystery and other, more “serious” fiction and non-fiction to boot.
Around late elementary school through junior high school, I started to try plotting my own stories, and wrote some. In high school, I attempted NaNoWriMo with a plot heavily inspired by The Wheel of Time and the Belgariad, if I had to search for particular inspirations. For many reasons, I abandoned that story.
Years later, over a few years, I decided to try NaNoWriMo a few more times; those attempts netted me some partial drafts, but again… I abandoned the stories. Each time, it’s for a good reason, but at least these ones I’ve held on to.
Recently, the urge to try writing again came upon me, and I’ve had significantly more success than my previous attempts. I’d even be willing to say that this time the spark truly caught.
